Greenhouse Bench Watering Kit
A simple, easy to use watering system for greenhouse bench watering
Setting Up
Place the capillary matting on the plastic sheet and wet thoroughly. Fill the reservoir with water and replace the cap. Turn the reservoir upside down and place it on the matting.
Ensure the matting and soil in pots are moist before use as water travels through the matting by capillary action. This works by the attraction of water molecules to each other. If the matting or plant pots are dry, capillary action will not take place.
Level Surface
To avoid leakage, always lay out the matting on a level surface. Water may leak from the lower edge if there is a fall of more than 10 cm. over the length of the matting.
Suitable Pots
Soil in the pot must make contact with the capillary matting, if in doubt, try out the pot on the matting before going away for an extended period.
Greenhouse Watering
Greenhouse conditions can vary considerably, always test out the system before leaving the plants for any long period. To extend the watering capacity, simply use additional 'Hortibottles'.
Growbags
Cut a strip of matting about 12cm x 30cm. Cut a slot for the matting in the underside of one end of the growbag and insert about 12cm of the matting so that it lies between the soil and the plastic of the growbag. Lay the growbag and matting on plastic sheet. Ensure the soil in the growbag is damp by watering from above. Fill the reservoir and place it on the matting.
Feeding
The system can also be used to feed your plants. Use a liquid feed only.
Simply add the liquid feed to the water in the reservoir, using the lowest rate recommended by the manufacturer
Maintenance of the System
The systems are designed to be robust and trouble free in normal use.
In cold conditions ensure the reservoir is empty to avoid frost damage.
To minimise growth of algae and reduce the risk of diseases add 40mls of Citrox each time the reservoir is filled. To clean the reservoir, mix 25mls of Citrox with 0.5 litres of water, pour into reservoir and swill round. Repeat swilling after at least 10 minutes then empty.
